The authors knowledge of eighties movies and video games is admirable to a point, but it doesn't really make for a great read, although I did make it to the end, so maybe I saw a smidgen of potential in the debut author's scribblings.

The hope clearly being that the movie straddles the holy grail, the coveted middle ground between grown-up nostalgia and kids entertainment.The quests are different to the book, and that’s where the main changes come in. A wisecracking mercenary gets experimented on and becomes immortal but ugly, and sets out to track down the man who ruined his looks.
