Mir hat die dichte Atmo gefehlt. Theo ist der absolute Freigeist, Nelly die Unterdrückte. Aber die Figuren werden bis auf Nelly zu verknappt erzählt. Das Buch fesselt von Anfang an, dabei ist es absolut leicht und verständlich geschrieben und man kann es kaum weglegen. Als Leser ist man sich nie wirklich sicher: kommt der Horror von Hill House oder aus Eleanors gequältem Kopf? Ich fand die Psychologie der Protas hin und wieder irritierend und nicht durchdacht. Das kann daran liegen, dass im Film Aktion unmittelbarer und realistischer erscheint. Die Atmosphäre von Hill House ist bedrückend und beängstigend.
