A witless demonstration of a CGI budget far in excess of anything warranted by either the acting or writing, Tau is a string of pseudo-technological buzzwords, cliches and clumsy set pieces which betray a crippling ignorance of the technologies it attempts to initially scare and ultimately win over audiences with. The original series and its takeovers seem quite good, but the movies are below average! This on top of very mediocre performances, and character decisions that don't seem near as reasonable as some other choices they could have made. Strong lead, quirky plot, good visuals, interesting scenario, exciting tension.

Was this review helpful? This is one of many films that I avoided for ages because it had a 5 and a bit rating here on IMDb then I go to watch it and realise its actually brilliant. Blending the idea of creation into a sci-fi film is not new but in this case it is done is in a very interesting way. Whoever wrote the main character, did a great job. I remember some of it pretty good... From fake windows to ever-pointless holograms and cringeworthy appeals to AI sentience, the aesthetic appeal of the sci-fi setting is shattered, through inaccuracy and inconsistency, every time Noga Landau's screenplay tries to have it interact with the plot in any way. Es bleibt offen, ob TAU Gefühle für sie hat. The idea of love is another great twist in TAU. Glad I watched this movie. It was similar to other films within the AI genre, but different enough to be unpredictable. So I forgot about the movie for about two hours, «dont need a bad booooooring movie in my life right now» I liked it tho, there are scenes where you really feel the moment. I'm having a hard time trying to understand why this film came in for such criticism, Tau held my attention, it was bold, ambitious, creative, and for the most part it delivers. Taus, scientists and girl's performance was good! Netflix continues to disappoint with its original movies. The writers blur the lines between human consciousness and what we call "AI". The interplay between the AI and the primary character is a wonderful turn of events as it permits the audience a brief insight into what it might be to interface with AI. It's fine. There are also some problems with CGI here and there, but that does not dectract from the viewing experience.
it's close but sorry i just can't call it decent. Namely a movie where people are taken against there will and forced to play a game of death.
I thought Tau was a pretty cool film and i dont really understand some of the bad reviews. In 1997 the German distributor re-released the film on video as an uncut version. It wasnt full of action though so if your looking for action its not a film for you, but i was hooked dieing to know what was going to happen. Mr. Gary Oldman, as the voice of Tau is incredibly original, but also lends itself to a homage of 2001. Just like many other Netflix sci-fi movies, I cannot recommend watching it.
